Job seekers, manufacturing businesses invited to career fair

LEESBURG – Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Division is teaming up with CareerSource Central Florida, Valencia College and the Manufactures Association of Central Florida to host the Florida Manufacturing Career Fair on Thursday, April 23 at the Lake Square Mall, 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg. 

From 1- 2 p.m., Florida trade students, graduates, veterans and pre-screened applicants are invited to meet potential employers. From 2- 4 p.m., the fair is open to the general public. Manufacturing businesses with job openings are encouraged to sign up to attend the free event. Businesses and job seekers may each register online at www.CareerSourceCentralFlorida.com/CareerFair.

“Manufacturing is integral to keeping Lake County’s economy healthy, and we are committed to building relationships between our manufacturing businesses and their future employees,” said Erika Greene, Lake County Economic Development Coordinator. 

While manufacturers in Florida employ four percent of the workforce, the county’s manufacturing workforce totals seven percent. Lake County is home to more than 300 manufacturing companies, employing more than 7,000 people producing a variety of goods including specialized tools, communications equipment, and aerospace, medical and automotive products. 

CareerSource Central Florida is a leader in the CareerSource Florida network, serving Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter Counties. During fiscal year 2013-2014, CareerSource Central Florida served 7,842 businesses and 40,338 job seekers who successfully secured employment. Statewide, the network served more than 101,300 businesses and nearly 489,700 job seekers who successfully secured employment in 2013-2014. About 30,000 of these men and women are military veterans.
