The Center for Advanced Manufacturing breaks ground

Release Date: October 30, 2014

EUSTIS – Lake County Commissioners Leslie Campione, Sean Parks and Timothy Sullivan helped break ground today on the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) at Lake Technical College in Eustis.

“I see a Lake County where niche manufacturing is our key industry,” Commissioner Campione said. “This is the first step to making that happen.”

The center will train Computer Numerical Control machinists, welders and fabricators and is set to be one of the premiere workforce training facilities in Central Florida.

Sen. Alan Hays and Rep. Larry Metz, who spoke during the ceremony, with support from the Lake County Commission, helped secure $1.4 million for the CAM. The grant was provided to renovate an 11,500-square-foot facility at the college, purchase equipment and set up a training program for the manufacturing workforce.

Lake Technical College Director Dr. Diane Culpepper, Rep. Daniel Webster, Lake County Schools Superintendent Susan Moxley, Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of Central Florida Sherry Reeves and Lake Technical College Board of Directors Chairman Chief Fred A.M. Cobb also addressed the crowd, which consisted of members of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department, Lake County Manager David Heath, Lake County Sheriff Gary Borders, Lake Technical College Board members and local business leaders.

“To meet the growing need for a local, high-tech manufacturing workforce, The Center for Advanced Manufacturing will provide training for skilled workers and attract new businesses right here in Lake County,” said Robert Chandler, director of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department.
