South Lake Chamber announces new Technology Committee

CLERMONT – With support from the Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Department, the South Lake Chamber Technology Committee was recently formed with the goal of promoting the region as a viable location for Central Florida’s booming technology industry.

“Businesses must continue to be innovative in order to remain competitive and technology is the catalyst for innovation,” said committee chairman Daniel D. Whitehouse, Esq., Attorney & Counselor at Law with Whitehouse & Cooper. “The committee provides a forum for technology professionals and business owners to collaborate and share ideas, including stakeholders from different industries sharing their successes and challenges.”

The committee provides support for technology-related businesses within Lake County by offering guidance from the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, as well as county and local governments, and envisions ways to retain, expand, and attract technology businesses to the area by encouraging networking and idea-sharing with entrepreneurs, employees and hobbyists.

“This committee will fill a gap by addressing the needs of both startups and established businesses interested in operating outside of major metropolitan areas, but who still require big-city amenities such as high-tech infrastructure, quality education, skilled workers and top-notch business resources,” said Paul Simmons, Economic Development & Tourism coordinator.

According to the Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC), one of the top 10 reasons to do business in metro-Orlando is the area’s strong tech industry hub. The region’s second-largest industry is technology, boasting a high-tech ecosystem and strong base of more than 5,000 companies employing over 70,000 people in digital media, simulation, aviation/aerospace and information technology, according to the EDC. 

South Lake County is eyeing companies growing or relocating to Central Florida who are seeking access to a high-tech infrastructure, a tech-savvy workforce, nearby university research and development, public and private partnership opportunities and a variety of support organizations dedicated to helping technology-driven businesses.
