LEESBURG — Visitors of the Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Department’s Tourism Expo may go home with more than just a better understanding of the businesses, events and attractions Lake County has to offer. Tourism-related businesses will also be offering prizes and giveaways to attendees of the expo, which will be held from 2 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at Lake-Sumter State College, 9501 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg.

Prizes will include: four Segway Tours from Segway Tours of Mount Dora, a 2-hour trip for two with Premier Boat Tours, a one-night stay at Comfort Inn and Suites in The Villages and two tickets to Monster Challenges Mud Obstacle race on Oct. 11.

The event is free and open to the public, and citizens will have a chance to mingle with tourism-related business owners including event planners, hoteliers, attraction owners and restaurateurs. The Expo is a one-stop-shop for residents interested in planning a wedding, signing up for family-friendly nature activities or even trying out extreme sports.

“The Tourism Expo is a perfect opportunity for local families to get to know Lake County a little bit better, from educational events at our pristine county parks to exciting adventures at one of Lake County’s eco-tourism attractions and amenities,” said Robert Chandler, director of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department. “The Expo will feature booths from tourism-related businesses that residents might like to patronize or recommend to friends and family who are planning a trip to the area.”

Chandler, along with Brandy Hastings of VISIT FLORIDA, will be the keynote speakers from 2- 3 p.m. in the Magnolia Room. The Expo and Exhibit Hall inside the gym will be open from 3 - 7 p.m. and feature informational booths of tourism-related businesses and organizations.

The mission of the tourism side of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department is to partner with and market Lake County’s tourism-related businesses and attractions. The department is also responsible for a host of functions to promote and help strengthen the local tourism industry.
