Astor Area Chamber of Commerce presents the ‘Astor Happy Crappie Fishing Tournament’

ASTOR — The Astor Area Chamber of Commerce and local businesses are hosting the inaugural “Astor Happy Crappie Fishing Tournament” on Saturday, March 15 at Powell’s Campground, 25716 Powell Drive, Astor.
The event, which is open to the public, will feature a weigh-in at 3 p.m., fish fry at 5 p.m. served by the AmVets, raffles, door prizes and entertainment by the Neon Truckers. The entry fee for anglers is $25 per person. Powell’s Campground, which is located on the St. Johns River, features a bait shop, picnic area and camping.
“Lake County is a premier destination for anglers and is known for its excellent crappie and bass fishing,” said Robert Chandler, director of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department. “Fishing tournaments like this one not only generate awareness about local waterways and the abundance of fish, but they also have a significant impact on the local economy."
The Astor Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit 501c6 business league and remains a non-partisan and non-sectarian organization. In addition to promoting local businesses, the chamber supports, both monetarily and through volunteerism, community organizations, schools and churches in the Astor area.
