Business Opportunity Centers to host programs to assist with government procurement

TAVARES – The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UCF-Lake County, funded by Lake County and residing in Lake County’s Business Opportunity Centers, is offering classes to help business owners understand the process of selling to the government.
“The federal government purchases about $97 billion each year from small businesses,” said Derek Hudson, Certified Business Analyst with the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), who will lead one of the classes. “The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has many programs for assisting small businesses with everything from how to apply for federal contracts, to getting access to capital.”
The two classes being offered are:
• Government Procurement
9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 26
Lake County Agricultural Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares
U.S. Small Business Administration representatives will present on topics such as SBA-backed loans, as well as federal contracting assistance, including the HUB Zone Program, 8(a) Program, socioeconomic programs and registering to sell to the federal government. Business counseling and training will be included.
• Introduction to the PTAC Program
9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9
Leesburg Community Center, 109 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg
The Orlando PTAC was established in 1985 to help established businesses understand the process of selling to the government on the federal, state and local levels. The information sessions and consulting services will be led by Derek Hudson, MBA, CBA.
The SBDC at UCF-Lake County provides existing and prospective entrepreneurs with high-quality business management counseling, entrepreneurial training, and information access and transfer, enabling them to maximize their businesses’ growth, competitiveness and profitability within their trading area.
