Long & Scott Farms invites community to celebrate 50 years of farming

TAVARES — Long & Scott Farms is celebrating 50 years of farming this year, and wants to thank those who have supported the company through the years, as well as welcome new friends. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Long & Scott Farms, 26216 County Road 448A, Mount Dora.

“Long & Scott Farms serves as a great family-friendly tourist destination in Lake County,” said Adam Sumner, interim director of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department. “Each year thousands of people travel to the area to enjoy the festive corn maze and activities offered.”

The event will have cooking demos, as well as speakers on gardening, growing and local sustainability. Prize giveaways are planned for every hour. Booths will be set up by supporting organizations and the celebration will include activities for kids such as a maze playground area, a 60-foot slide, a giant jumping pillow, hay rides and farm tours. 

Parking and admission to the event will be free. Attendees are invited to bring a nonperishable item for a food drive.

In 1963, Frank D. Scott Jr. and his family moved to Florida to establish Long & Scott Farms. In 1998, co-founder Billy Long retired and Scott semi-retired, leaving the day-to-day operations to his son, Hank. Today, Scott’s Country Market deals a wide assortment of produce and Scott’s Country Café uses food produced on the farm.
