Lake County business hosts demonstration for prominent aviation companies at Tavares facility

Release Date: March 23, 2012
TAVARES – G&T Conveyor Company, located at 476 Southridge Industrial Drive in Tavares, in conjunction with its sister company Ameribridge, recently hosted the demonstration of a new method of baggage handling, created to help combat the challenge of moving overflow carry-on bags to and from the bridges of airplanes.
The demonstration, performed for the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), BNP Associates and Delta Air Lines at G&T’s state of the art manufacturing and project engineering facility, showcased the Amer-A-Lift, which was created by Ameribridge.
The Amer-A-Lift is considered by many to be the next generation in gate-check baggage lifts. It combines previously unachieved standards of reliability, safety, ease of use, simplicity of maintenance and overall performance into one durable package.
“We take pride in the fact that we have innovative companies and facilities here in Lake County capable of developing new technologies and hosting a demonstration of this caliber,” said Scott Blankenship, Director of Economic Development & Tourism for Lake County.
According to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) statistics, the number of carry-on bags has soared 50 percent since 2008. Eighty-seven million more carry-ons were brought onto planes in fiscal year 2011 than in fiscal 2010, and fifty-nine million more carry-ons were brought onto planes in 2010 compared to 2009.
