Joint workshop between County Commission and School Board to be held July 19 in Minneola

Release Date: July 11, 2011

MINNEOLA — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners and Lake County School Board will hold a joint workshop on Tuesday, July 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lake Minneola High School, located at 101 N. Hancock Road.

The workshop, which includes a guided tour of the new high school, will give the two Boards an opportunity to hear an update on the Minneola Athletic Complex currently being proposed, as well as sidewalk and road improvements made near Lake Minneola High School.

An overview on the County’s Economic Action Plan will also be discussed, including goals related to education and workforce needs. Retired Lt. Gen. Thomas L. Baptiste, President and Executive Director of the National Center for Simulation, will be presenting on the topic of modeling and simulation.

In March, the County unveiled its Economic Action Plan as a tool to help promote economic growth in the community. The Plan was developed with input from businesses and residents, and looked at ways to promote Lake County as a business-friendly community.

One of the goals as part of the Plan is to “Assure that we have an available and well-prepared workforce for existing, emerging and prospective businesses, and collaborate with Lake County educators to meet workforce needs and achieve educational excellence.”

The County is still seeking suggestions from the community for ways to grow business in Lake County. For details on how to submit suggestions, visit the Lake County website at www.lakecountyfl.gov/businessideas.
