Guest speakers set for Annual Green Symposium

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS — The Second Annual Green Symposium on Thursday, July 29, and Friday, July 30, at Mission Inn Resort & Club features a host of presenters and panelists discussing environmental topics and how they are influencing business.

During lunch on Thursday and Friday and the banquet Thursday evening, three guest speakers will draw upon several of the environmental topics discussed during the symposium — including energy conservation, green job creation, alternative transportation, water consumption policy, green tourism and waste-to-energy — to share their informative points of view and to make impactful arguments.
THURSDAY LUNCH AT 11:45 A.M. — BILLY HATTAWAY
Hattaway is the Managing Director for Transportation at Vanasse Hangen Brustlin in Orlando. He provides street design and transportation planning to create safer, walkable, bike and transit friendly communities. He is actively involved in state and national efforts to rewrite planning and design guides for street design to support safer, more sustainable transportation systems.
THURSDAY BANQUET AT 6:30 P.M. — DANIEL PARKER
Parker is the Assistant Division Director of Environmental Health, in the Florida Department of Health. He has a master’s degree in urban planning from Florida State University and is Planning Commissioner for Tallahassee-Leon County. His area of interest is smart growth, leadership and sustainable solutions.
FRIDAY LUNCH AT 12:30 P.M. — DOUG ALDERSON
Alderson is the Florida Paddling Trails Coordinator for Florida's Office of Greenways and Trails. He has authored several books including Waters Less Traveled: Exploring Florida's Big Bend Coast, The Ghost Orchid Ghost and Other Tales From the Swamp, The Vision Keepers: Walking For Native Americans and the Earth, New Dawn for the Kissimmee River: Orlando to Lake Okeechobee by Kayak, Encounters with Florida's Endangered Wildlife and most recently, Seminole Freedom.
