Lake County Economic Growth & Redevelopment’s Web site touted by International Economic Development Council

TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Economic Growth & Redevelopment is pleased to announce its Web site, which launched in April 2009, has garnered praise from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

The Web site, egr.lakecountyfl.gov, received an honorable mention during an awards ceremony at the IEDC’s Annual Conference on Oct. 6 in Reno, Nev. The Department of Economic Growth & Redevelopment’s site competed in the category of “special purpose Web site” by organizations serving areas with populations exceeding 200,000.

“Our new Web site is proving to be a great marketing tool as it invites businesses outside the region, state and nation to explore what Lake County has to offer them,” said Dottie Keedy, Director of the Department of Economic Growth & Redevelopment. “This recognition by the International Economic Development Council confirms that our in-house efforts in planning and designing this new Web site were on the mark.”

According to the IEDC, Lake County’s new Web site made a notable impression because of its available property finder tool. The Web-based application gives real-estate brokers and property owners the opportunity to upload commercial, industrial and retail sites that are for sale or lease. As of this week, the available property finder included 175 listings.

“Furthering economic development is rarely a simple task in the best of times, and advancing the cause in the midst of a global financial crisis is nothing less than arduous,” said Ian Bromley, IEDC Chair. “As the consequences of the widespread economic turmoil have taken hold, we have seen our members become even more ardent proponents of economic development, flying in the face of one of the most challenging economic environments we have experienced in our careers.
