Lake County promotes new Planning & Zoning Manager
Release Date: September 02, 2016
TAVARES— Tim McClendon, a third generation planner with both county and city experience, has been promoted from Long Range Chief Planner to Planning & Zoning Manager.
“Tim has been an invaluable member of our Planning and Zoning staff for the last two years, during which time he worked to help ensure the efficient operation of our Planning & Zoning Division,” said Robert Chandler, director of the Economic Growth Department. “He brings over a decade of planning experience to the position, and we are excited about the future of the division under his management."
McClendon’s experience includes administrating zoning codes, writing Land Development Regulations, creating and interpreting Comprehensive Plan policies, and preparing and presenting reports and recommendations to public hearing review boards. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Central Florida.
“When it comes to planning, most of my career has focused on improving the customer service experience for the general public,” said McClendon. “This was imparted to me by my father, Bruce McClendon, the former Director of Growth Management in Orange County, who has literally written books on the subject. I hope to foster an environment that will bring quality growth and development to Lake County while improving and streamlining the development process.”
And while planning is in his family’s blood, so is America’s favorite pastime. McClendon was a minor league baseball pitcher in Kansas City, while his younger brother pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers, with Eustis-born Jonathan Lucroy as his catcher in the Big Leagues.
McClendon is expecting his first child next week with his wife of four years.
This mission of the Planning & Zoning Department is to provide a better quality of life for all Lake County citizens by facilitating development of a well-designed, efficient, healthy, and safely built environment. This enhances community identity, allows development to co-exist with the natural environment, and promotes sustainability.
